Editors' Take
I wouldn't drink that...not before viewing these "green" films. Grab some grub and learn a twist about your drinking water.
Movies will be shown from 6:30p–9:00p in ROOM 124 in MIT's
STATA center. Some free food will be available ;-) at 6:00PM.
Doerte will look out for anyone that wants to meet up beforehand at
the Starbucks Cafe inside the STATA center from 5:45 PM to 6 PM.
MOVIES on Jan 16 Troubled Waters, Drop of Life, Water Warriors
(preview only) Pls find below my attempt to provide directions. I
hope it will help ;-) I have also posted a map in the photo section
of this event posting and a picture of Frank Gehry's STATA center
for your orientation. Check it out ;-) DIRECTIONS By car: Drive
towards Kendall Sq (East Cambridge). There should be (metered)
parking along Main St. By T (public transit): It is a 5-10 minute
walk from the T to the STATA center. Exit at the Kendall Sq T Stop
on the Red Line Walk west on Main Street; towards Kendall Sq Hotel,
Legal Seafood, Broad Institute, Whitehead Institute etc. [away from
the river and Boston skyline] Continue straight at intersection of
Main St and Ames St. Take a left onto the big parking lot between
the MIT Bio Building and the STATA Center BEFORE you reach Vassar
St. Cross the parking lot and continue straight until you almost
hit the red metal sculpture, take a right towards the main entrance
to the STATA center (the outdoors atrium with the steep stairs is
to the left of the entrance) The Starbucks Cafe will be inside the
STATA center to your left. We will meet up at the Starbucks Cafe
between 5:45 PM and 6 PM. Arriving later? Just continue straight
when you are in the STATA building and find the entrance to the
lecture hall (Room 124) a few steps behind the cafeteria area.
Details on movies on Jan 16: Troubled Waters - A reminder that safe
water's "primary source" is not a 12-ounce plastic bottle. It's the
world's rivers, streams and lakes that are being strained by the
world's burgeoning population and consumption. Acclaimed actress
Lynn Redgrave hosts the 60-minute documentary, which was filmed in
various locations around the world, including Porto Alegre, Brazil,
the Middle East; Bolivia; Waukesha, Wis.; Washington, D.C.; Boston,
Mass., and other locations, to capture stories of water's
evaporating availability. UCC justice advocates joined ecumenical
partners in February to raise water-availability concerns at the
World Council of Churches' 9th international assembly. A Drop of
Life - About two women, one Indian woman and one American, and the
convergence of their shared struggle to save the world’s
drinking water. Water Warriors (preview only) - While corporations
urge local governments to privatize municipal water systems,
communities around the world organize to ensure affordable access
to this life sustaining resource. Water Warriors is the story of
one community’s determination to fight the seemingly
inevitable path of water privatization. MIT's Environmental Film
Festival is a series featuring films about the environment,
technology, and humanity. Sponsored by: Student Pugwash USA, The
MIT Chapter of, Students for Global Sustainability, Department of
Urban Studies and Planning, AID-MIT, GSC Funding Board, Groundwork
USA (

RE: Re: anyone for the first Tuesday?
Coming late should not be a big problem, because sneaking in at "lectures and films" was not much a problem in the past.
See you soon,
