Free Thursday Nights at ICA

Editors' Take

Not only is it HOT to make out in the galleries, surrounded by contemporary art, it's free! That pretty much makes it the perfect date night.

5pm to 9pm
Free Thursdays
at Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Ave, Boston (South Boston/Waterfront)
FREE

There were those who sat through the dreaded purgatory tent of 'free opening day', but let's forgive & forget because now we can amble in any Thurdsday night. It’s technically called ‘Target Free Thursday Nights’, because Thursday evenings are free as long as Target will sponsor it. I say, "Who cares? You see the same darn thing!"

The cool thing is that they actually do special events on many Thursday nights.  Below are the original posted events.  I'lll try to keep up, but there's a good chance to see something extra if you go on Free Thursdays. At the very least, take a walk around the galleries and enjoy the fantastic view of the harbor.

The ICA offers six docent-led tours free with museum admission. Tours leave from the lobby.

• Target Free Thursday Night
6 & 7 pm         Introduction to the ICA

• Saturday  & Sunday
1 &  2:30 pm    Introduction to the ICA

The Introduction to the ICA tour focuses on the museum as a whole, showing architectural highlights and discussing the concepts behind architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s design of the new ICA.

I'm not sure I can make it, but the music is already separately listed here:

People can use it to see who's specifically interested in Thursday...

    Gordon Au
at Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Ave, Boston (South Boston/Waterfront)
    FREE

Every Thusday evening is free admission to the ICA. The sounds of Berklee jazz ensembles will fill the air of the outside waterfront plaza on many summer Thursdays. This week is the talented trumpeter Gordon Au and his modern bop group.

It's worth just checking out the exhibits and the view from the gallery level. The Misaki Kawai installation of a outer space party is awesome, and the Philip-Lorca diCorcia photography exhibit looks really good.

Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

There's free jazz this upcoming Thursday, and I accidentally posted it as another event.

Then I decided to keep it separate...

Hi- I just went today-I didn't see this until this afternoon. I would be interested to hear what you think about it and we could all discuss it.
Let me know once you go and/or if anyone else goes!

I am definitely going this Thursday. I went Opening Day, it was just way too mobbed and free fits my budget every time!!! I just got back from London and saw lots of Museums there so I want to compare them and see just how "world class" Boston really is.
