Make It New

At the turn of 2008, Basstown Productions paired up with the weekly techno night that brings you the best and freshest of minimal and European techno.

The music generally played is european techno. Not the capital T Techno of Detroit, but the artform generally referenced as "techno" in Europe. This includes everything from the minimalism of Richie Hawtin and Dubfire to the big-room sounds of Sven Vath and Luciano. As long as it's new and fresh, we spin it.

The goal is to bring this night - which has been going strong for more than 3 years - beyond its peak. The crowd is a mix of stylish European Cantabrigians, lots of grad students, a few techno DJs, a few rave dancers and a whole lot of aesthetes.

The night began with residents Billy Kiely (UFO), Erik Pearson (aka Caulder, aka Baltimoroder), DJ David Day and Mike Uzzi (aka Smartypants). Since then, the residents have expanded, and welcomed the talents of the frequent guest Baldur, who's made a name for himself at River Gods, Volvox, who is our resident darkwave DJ, well tapped into the industrial and goth scene of both Boston, New York and Berlin. Basstown's resident DJ Die Young, with a knack for remixes, has also come on board. Veteran residents Baltimoroder and Alan Manzi are still on board, and their styles are sharper than ever. Catching them both on the same night is a treat.
