Meet your neighbors, create or participate in a community project, find out what's happening in JP, and have a damn good time. On Wednesday February 1st from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Milky Way Lounge and Lanes (403-405 Center St in Jamaica Plain), Neighbors for Neighbors, JP will host a Community Organizing meeting that will be attended by approximately 150 residents of Jamaica Plain. From 7:00 to 7:30 PM attendees will socialize and connect with each other. The Organizing meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 PM. This focus will be on introducing and creating new community projects that residents will lead and participate in as volunteers. New projects include but are not limited to Name Tag Day, Gardening Club, Knitting Club, Left-Right-Front-Back, and re-introducing Safe Walk. New project introductions will go from 7:40 PM to 8:15 PM. Announcements will be made from 8:15 to 8:30 PM. Announcement will be made by: Captain James Claiborne from Jamaica Plain E13 Police Department will introduce himself to attendees, Alex Cook from Art Builds Community will introduce his new program, Femke Rosenbaum from Spontaneous Celebrations will introduce their new programs, and Carl Nickerson from Mike’s Fitness will introduce their new gym. This is a free event, delicious appetizers will be provided by the Milky Way and the event will be translated into Spanish. For more information please contact Joseph Porcelli at 857-222-4420 and jporcelli@neighborsforneighbors.org. RSVP appreciated but not necessary. Neighbors for Neighbors, JP, is a new breed, volunteer-run community, social, and organizing group that hosts neighborhood social and organizing events, run programs, and collaborates with other community organizations, and our local police department, to provide members with the opportunity to connect, create, lead and participate in community projects. Our initiatives result in empowerment, civic engagement, safety awareness, improving our community, and enhancing neighbors' connections in a fun and casual setting. NFN has brought together over 700 neighbors since its inception in October of 2004, and produced 26 community service projects lead by 23 residents and engaging over 400 community members.
