Boston-area theatre company, Flat Earth Theatre, will present their second-annual live performance of The War of the Worlds Saturday, October 31st at Pandemonium Books in Central Square.
Based on the novel by H.G. Wells,
The War of the Worlds radio drama shocked the world when it first aired on October 30th,
1938.
Many
who tuned in late to
Orson Welles
's historic broadcast mistook it for an actual news bulletin,
believing that Earth was indeed under attack by Martian invaders.
Featuring performers from the greater Boston area, as well as live
foley effects artists, the show will recreate the experience of a
live radio drama in the making.
Flat Earth strives to create an immersive and thought-provoking theatrical experience that both challenges and entertains. Founded in 2006, Flat Earth encourages community involvement in all of their shows and activities. Past performances include Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit, Karel ÄŒapek's Rossum's Universal Robots, Reginald Rose's Twelve Angry Jurors, and Sharon Pollock's Blood Relations.
The one-hour performance will be held at Pandemonium Books, 4 Pleasant Street in Cambridge, Saturday, October 31st at 8:30 PM. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
