The Coolidge Corner Theatre's Science on Screen series returns Monday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m. with a presentation of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Victor Fleming's 1941 adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Victorian horror tale.

Screen legend Spencer Tracy stars in the dual title role. In 1887 London, Henry Jekyll is an upstanding physician who develops a drug that turns him into the evil Edward Hyde. At first, Jekyll can dispense of Hyde whenever he chooses. But as he repeatedly takes the potion, the malevolent Hyde begins to dominate -- until he can no longer be controlled.  Lana Turner co-stars as Jekyll's loving fiancee and Ingrid Bergman as a luckless barmaid pursued and abused by the brutish Hyde.

Before the film, guest speakers John Durant, MIT professor, and Anne Harrington, Harvard professor, discuss some of the scientific and medical theories of the era in which the famously divided Jekyll/Hyde was born.

Tickets available at www.coolidge.org or at the Coolidge Corner Theatre box office, located at 290 Harvard Street in Brookline. For more information, visit www.coolidge.org/science or call 617/734-2500.
