Coolidge Presents Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Event Over)

Just in time for Halloween, the Coolidge Corner Theatre presents Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1941 adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Victorian horror tale.

Screen legend Spencer Tracy stars in the dual title role of Dr. Henry Jekyll, an upstanding London physician who develops a drug that transforms him into the evil Edward Hyde.  At first, Jekyll can dispense with Hyde whenever he chooses.  But as the good doctor repeatedly takes the potion, Hyde begins to dominate -- until he can no longer be contained.  Lana Turner stars as Jekyll's loving fiancee and Ingrid Bergman as a luckless barmaid pursued and abused by the bestial Hyde. 

The film will be introduced by MIT professor John Durant and Harvard professor Anne Harrington, who co-taught a course on science and medicine in the Victorian era at London's Imperial college last summer.
