Watch with others and actually understand (!) the racing at this year's Head of the Charles Regatta... (Event Over)
- When:Sat 10/21/06 (10AM)
- Where: Harvard Square
- Address: Holyoke Street Cambridge, MA Map
Spectators at the Head of the Charles Regatta often wonder what it
is exactly they are watching. Are the rowers racing against each
other or against a clock? What makes one boat faster than another?
Why are the rowers facing OPPOSITE the direction they are
traveling?! Why do some boats have a coxswain and others don't,
while some have 2, others 4 and still others 8 rowers in them? If
you and your friends are planning to watch the HOCR this weekend
and desire answers to these and other questions about rowing stop
by the Charles where you can join others as we watch and I provide
running commentary on the racing. I will be ensconced between famed
Weeks Memorial Bridge and Weld Boathouse where the river bend
creates world famous regatta tight spots! Any questions let me
know; I'll send an email to RSVPers about exact meeting location
and time (near Harvard Sq. around 10AM) on Friday evening. Feel
free to forward to others... let's hope for great weather for
racing!!!
