Are you a Night Owl? -Do you sometimes think you should be living alteast three time zones to the West because the people around you go to bed way too early? -Would you rather someone call you at 3:00am rather then 8:00am? -Do you sometimes think that you will sleep when you are dead? -Do you have the phone numbers of all the places that serve food after 2:00am programmed into your cell phone? -Are you looking for a place to go after the bars close? -Do you actually know what comes on T.V after the Late Late Show? Well if you said Yes to any of these questions above then I would say you could be considered a Night Owl! Join this group and let your fellow Going members know who they rely on for an early early morning chat or get together. Share what you do in the early hours to pass the time because sleep is the last thing on your mind or doesn't seem to come. Feel free to post events and get togethers that might be going on After Hours or when I would say the cool people are up!:) PLEASE NOTE: If you post messages about events that DO NOT go into "after hours" (I would say after 2am), I will report it as abuse and delete your post. Promoters are welcome to post messages as long as they are relevant to the group! Thank you so much for joining!

THAVIUS BECK IS PRODUCING BIRTHDAY DEBAUCHERY THAT WILL LEAVE THIS FAMOUS DANCEFLOOR SHATTERED

On Wednesday, July 30th, Low End Theory is back to the beats, highlighting some of the brightest stars from the L.A. beat scene. First off we have birthday boy and general monolith Thavius Beck, who will be debuting a slew of his newest beat creations. We will also feature sets by Poo-Bah mainstays Ras G and Take, plus your favorite Atari twiddler Computer Jay. Truly, this line-up exemplifies what Low End Theory is about. All residents on deck (yes, D-Styles is back from Hong Kong).

We're also back inside this week, so early arrival is highly suggested for this special event:

Now, based in New York, he's recorded remixes for Kudu, Rick Ross and the Rapture amongst other blog worthy artists. He's releasing his debut EP in '08 on Throne of Blood Records, the record label run by The Rapture and DJ James F!@#$% Friedman.

How many people Twist and Turn about 30 times before falling asleep? I find myself to turn either clockwise or counter-clockwise many times-like on my back, on my side, on my stomach, on my other side, on my back...etc.. lol..I Don't understand how people can just lay down and SNAP, they are asleep!

Sounds like your body may be tired, but your brain is still in high gear.

Try turning down the lights in your home about an hours before you hit the sack.

Also, turn off the TV about 45-60 mins before bed.

also, turn on some soft music about 1/2 hour before bed time.

If you are drinking "ANY" soda's of coffee late in the day - stop! The caffeine may be keeping you awake as well.

I also find a back rub + foot rub knocks me out.

There are a few other, non-chemical, tips that I wouldn't go into on this thread.....

Ok, 1 other item I left out.

Working out: a W.O. or some other form on exercise for at least 1/2 hr./day helps to sleep. I find if I don;t get some level of exercise each day I don't sleep well.

On music: and this is purely in an effort to sleep better, try a 1/2 hr of classical music before bed. It does have a calming effect. Also, enough mood'ish music may do the trick as well.

On coffee: try herb tea instead of coffee (for a day) to see if it helps.

On massage: surely if you are single, you can find a willing friend to help. I would guess that NY is full capable friends.....

I sit at a desk most of the day for my job... so I made it my mission this year, that when it started getting warmer, that I'd go to the park and walk around the track or hike everyday after I got off of work. It is great-and lol I don't have much energy to go BACK on the computer at night.. I must say-I still can't explain the turns.. maybe my muscles are sore and by me moving, its almost like ignoring or avoiding the soreness. I like regular tea... I never was a fan of it, but I'm slowly transitioning to it-Cold tea and cold coffee are preferred more than hot-but I rarely drink coffee-so that transition is almost a false statement lol.

Ok, it's 9:30 PM Pacific time. That means it's 12:30 AM Atlantic (your time).

A passing observations: while I really enjoy our chats, you are locked onto that keyboard way to long. LOL.... No wonder your not sleeping; you're busy talking up a storm. LOL

Does the term "Downtime" mean anything to you? Think of it as a period where you forget and relax your brain - before you sleep. That period when the "Sand Man" creeps into your bedroom and makes those pretty eye lids heavy....

FYI:I have been known to work 48 hours without stopping. And I don't drink coffee. I merely use lights to keep myself awake. as long as my lights are bright I can stay awake. As soon as I turn then down I pass out ;o)

One last thing - Yoga before bed. It's suppose to work as well. I do a little myself - in addition to all the other things.

              Pleasant dreams Natalia....

Yep, this is a group about insomniacs .

However, there's a difference between staying up "by choice", chatting up interesting & stimulating conversation - and trying to go to sleep & stay asleep. The proverbial "insomniac" tries to sleep. You, on the other hand, don't make the effort until the wee hours - again, by choice.

The later falls under the category of "night owl", "night crawler", "vampire" and various other nocturnal types.

I know this type well, because like you, I too am a night dweller - forced to live by day - but seduced and in love with the night.

But, unlike you, I do find myself waking at night; from time to time. So this makes me somewhat of a insomniac. And if you wake up at night, when you are trying to sleep, that would make you one as well. Sort of....

Ok. I understand exactly what you are talking about and the break-down of these terms.

Although I consider myself DEFINITELY a night owl, I know that I'm very insomniatic.

The reason I'm even on the computer at night is that I'm trying to mentally get myself tired, I know that physically laying in a bed is relaxing, but it won't put me to sleep if my mind is all over. That is one reason that I start moving around.

Everything we do is by choice, but lol its a bit hard to force myself to sleep-haven't mastered it lol.

If you find yourself tossing and turning, you're pretty much pissing yourself off for not being able to sleep. Get outta bed for a bit. Only go back when you are truly tired. Happens again? Get out. You may need to start teaching your mind and body that bed=sleep. Don't let yourself toss and turn, it's an exercise in frutility.

Usually, instead of going into bed and jumping out about 30 times...I just, like I mentioned to John, don't lay in my bed if I'm not mentally (sometimes physically) tired.

I've had 2 similar nights, only with a coughing dog. How can you get a dog to stop coughing when it's just a dry irritated throat that she can't stop once she starts? Plus, she's doing it somewhat for attention (she's a fast learner). I'm getting ready to run to the store to get a tea that I drank last year when I had a sore throat. It really worked, but tastes like crap. I don't know how I'm gonna get her to drink the stuff. I hate the idea of taking her to the vet when the only problem is she can't stop coughing (she's not sick, she just breathed in some water and then it escalated into a dry, scratchy throat cough). I am still trying to catch up on sleep.

And this is one of the reasons I don't have children!

Huuummm, I wonder how you could produce so many post, with such clarity, in so little time. Now I know. while the rest of the world sleeps, you're burning the midnight oil bending our subconscious in ever more draconian ways.

correcto mondo. And here it is 5:41 sunday morning and i've been online for 2 hours pontificating verbally in writting. Now it's almost time to load the truck up and drive to Sausolito again to try and finish an exterior before the scafolding comes down. It's right down the street from Stinson beach in a breath taking area. So i'm like the freakin marine's , i do more before 10 o'clock than most people do all day, horah!

Hah. Headed to China Basin, S.F. this morn to fulfill a small piece of a contract commitment.

Are you getting any action there? R&D buildings are jump'n like catfish on a hot summer Mississippi morning. Lot's of quality work. It's a biggest build-out in S.F. resent history. Build-out will last 10 years. Gazillions of $$$ changing hands.

On the craft side, all trades are union - but not sure about painting...?

Looks like drywall is going up now and painting will start soon.
