Hey guys, I'm new here and would like to get your thought on boston gun range. I want to go, yet many of the students at my school are not into range shooting, so I am kind of alone on this one.

      Hi Vlad,

Great to see you have an interest in the range. It is open to the public 7 days a week. I run a couple of Hey Lets Go events to bring people up. It might be time for another one soon.

But in the mean while, if you have a car, it is about 45 minutes out of Boston. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

      Cheers,
      Gene

I know June is slowly creeping away from us. I've been busy - as usual - but I wanted to get some of you back down to the range (and some of you down for the first time).

So how about June 24? I didn't want to tire people out before Becca's big party on the 17th!

Let me know, but that will be the tentative date.

    Cheers,
    Gene

    Hey everyone,

Was trying to pick a weekend for the next range day. I won't be able to run one until at lease June. So give me some dates that might work for everyone, and I will try and pick a day. Saturday or Sunday will work.

Oh second idea I had is I might run diffent level sessions for people that have already participated in one. Afer about three-four sessions, I might qualify people for a Mass State/ NRA pistol safety cerificate. What do you think?

    Cheers,
    Gene

      Hey Gene,

I'll be up in Laconia, NH for Bike Week from 6/14-6/18...other than that, as it stands right now, pretty much any Sun. works for me.
(Eilis, wanna tag team again? ;-D)

Re: qualifying for the pistol safety certificate, does that include a written test? Also, does it allow you to carry, or is that something completely different?

      Thanks again for organizing!!
      Peace,

        Hi, Heather.

The Massachusetts Basic Firearm Safety certificate does not allow you to carry.

The Massachusetts Basic Firearm Safety certificate allows you to start the process of _applying_ to get an FID (Firearms Identification Card) or LTC (License to Carry-Class A or B) permit in Massachusetts; either of which you'll need to have in order to purchase a gun in Massachusetts.

In my experience (which is not broad in this arena), a written test is usually given. I don't know if it's actually required though.

        Namaste,
        Bryt %)

      Hi, Gene,

I'm possibly free either June 24th or 25th at this point, but I've already got a range trip with some other folks tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 11th. I'll try to make it if I can afford the time & money, but please don't weight my availability overmuch in the date decision.

      Thanks!
      Bryt %)
PS-I think having more people with Mass./NRA Basic Pistol Safety Certificates is a good thing!

Gene emphasized safety above all and made time to explain the general nuts and bolts of various guns (handguns, rifles, shotguns, semis/autos, etc.) with a handgun disassembly, for some great background. Shooting in the range was pretty intense - I was sweating trying to focus repeatedly on the bullseye - but it was absolutely fun! Overall, it was definitely a great educational experience and would recommend it to anyone.

Yes, this is very safe. Thought they give you a real gun and real bullets, there are a lot of precaution you'll learn. And with a pro like Gene who's taught hundreds of ppl including the Boston Police, you'll be in terrific hands. Check it out!
