    Hello All,

Please join me as I dance the night away for a good cause! This is a 21+ event with a $25 fee. All proceeds will be donated to the services and programs at AIDS Action Committee.

The five hour long, Dance-a-Thon will feature “theme hours” with music from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. Dancers are encouraged to wear a costume from their favorite era, and the best costume from each era will be awarded a prize at the end of the evening. To enter to win other fabulous prizes, raffle tickets will also be available for purchase. Teams are a fun way to get involved with a group of friends, family, or coworkers to support each other in fundraising, costume design, and of course dancing!

See you on the dance floor!

      Hey Nathan,

Thanks for posting this event. I may have to attend a family party that evening, but if not, I'll definitely be there. What about you other UMB-ers? Anyone up for this?

If not a T pass then a Crystal Transport bus. Maybe a smoke stack for the science building? Yes, I know you were first thinking about all the smokers hanging in front of all the doors. How about a fish as it is next to the water? Not even going to touch on the old sewage treatment plant and the fact the university was built on a dump. The teamsters already have a rat.

Nice mascot suggestions Michael! I read last week they closed the parking garage for fear of the cement coming crashing down. I guess some politicans were convicted in the 1970's for taking bribes during construction. nice!

Yes, I suspect a squished rat would not be that cute. How about a seagull? What about an airplane? The university is right in the flight path to Logan. How about a kamakazee bicyclist? It would be the modern version of a snarling fisherman smoking a cornpipe. I know I must have been nuts to bicycle there for several years. On the positive side Bell Metropolis helmet now has rain and snow covers.

    Hey Stephanie,

    Thanks for joining the group!

I also finished most of my studies before the campus center opened. I went to a private college before UMB, and I thought making friends was easier on a campus with dorms and few full-time-working students. But it's still easy to make friends at UMB--especially within your own department where you automatically already have some common interests.

    Have a great day,

You know, I have VERY little to go on with the 'traditional college' experience--most of my time in undergrad, and my entire time in my first grad program, i lived off-campus and worked while going to school. i think that making friends in grad school in my department will be fine--we'll all be in classes together, more or less--but the whole process of getting to know new people, gauging trust and comfort and all of that--it's always annoying and frustrating to me. i think i'm really great with people once i reach that 'friendship established' stage. before that, though, sometimes i can be a little bit on the awkward side.

ahh well. i'm psyched for school, and that comes with school...

Thanks for inviting me. I graduated from UMB in 2000 with a BA in English and a minor in Economics. Great school, I really enjoyed my education there. They didn't have the campus center when I was there. That should make it a lot easier to meet up with people after class and stuff. Good luck in your studies!

...and now what? I am starting classes at UMB towards my MA in American Studies in September. I'm psyched, because I'm a nerd and school is pretty much my favorite thing in the world, but I'm nervous because new school means this whole new process of making friends all over again. (I live here already, so I have friends, but...school friends...)

    But I'm psyched. REALLY psyched!!
