As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.

I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny about peace love and understanding?

Catch Richie Havens on Good Morning America this Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00AM. ET. Richie is scheduled to be on at approximately 8:30AM

He will be visiting ABC’s morning news/talk show in support of the grand opening of the Museum at Bethel Woods, as well as to announce the upcoming official U.S. release of his current album Nobody Left to Crown.

Richie recently signed a deal with the Verve Records for U.S. distribution of Nobody Left to Crown, which was successfully released in Europe this past March. The American release date will be July 29, 2008.

The Museum at Bethel Woods is an immersive and captivating multi-media experience that combines film and interactive displays, text panels, and artifacts to explore the unique experience of the Woodstock festival, its significance as the culminating event of a decade of radical cultural transformation, and the legacy of the Sixties and Woodstock today. The museum opens Monday, June 2, 2008 at 12:00 noon.

A poignant message received from VFP.

In today's Globe it was reported that the Mayor joined Arthur Smith of the American Legion in remembrance of Memorial Day saying "people should take time and remember that Memorial day is to honor people who've given their lives so we can walk around doing what we like to do."

I believe Andy Rooney has it more accurately - "They did not give their lives - they had them taken away."

In the same paper, Mike Gravel left the Democratic Party saying "It no longer represented his values because it continues
to sustain the Iraq War, the military-industrial complex, and imperialism," and that he will continue to push the issues of freedom and liberty until the day he dies.

Of late, on any given subject with respect to war and peace, it seems to me we have grown increasingly splintered despite the
best of intentions - we live in a cesspool of confusion and produced mendacity.

I could not agree with Mr. Gravel more, but given my inherent anger and frustration I am fortunately thrown to my knees remembering the serenity prayer "God grant me the serenity to change the things I can change, accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference."

I cannot change the path of our war machine, the machinations of its supporters, and the comfortable delusion of our citizenry. Indeed, as I look about me I can envision the lines of those who suffered the holocaust, insofar as we seen to be, somehow similarly, a nation patiently lining up for the kool-aid shot of the day. For me, I can only simply, but unequivocally, stand for no more war - I can refuse to join with those who can dress things nicely through Madison Avenue, and hold close in my heart the terror and suffering of the little people who constituted the civil rights movement, the history of which has been homogenized.

I can stand for free speech, I can stand for freedom to protest. This may in the end be all I can do, but thank God I may be free of confusion, and more able to remember the injustice suffered by those who did not give their lives, but had them taken away.

God (a light in the mind of no real name) deliver us all.

This is the first I've read of Mike Gravel's leaving the dem party.

I am surprised by neither the action not lack of corporate media coverage.

Gravel was one of two senators to vote against the Gulf of Tonkin resolution.

        A Personal Message from Mike
March 26th, 2008 by Senator Mike Gravel

I wanted to update you on my latest plans before news gets out. Today, I am announcing my plan to join the Libertarian Party, because the Democratic Party no longer represents my vision for our great country. I wanted my supporters to get this news first, because you have been the ones who have kept my campaign alive since I first declared my candidacy on April 17, 2006.

The fact is, the Democratic Party today is no longer the party of FDR. It is a party that continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism -- all of which I find anathema to my views.

By and large, I have been repeatedly marginalized in both national debates and in media exposure by the Democratic leadership, which works in tandem with the corporate interests that control what we read and hear in the media.

I look forward to advancing my presidential candidacy within the Libertarian Party, which is considerably closer to my values, my foreign policy views and my domestic views.

Please take a moment to make your most generous donation to my presidential campaign today. $10, $20, $50 -- whatever you feel you can afford.

I want to thank you all for your continued support.

During the month of June the Unitarian Church of Marlborough and Hudson will be hosting the "Field of Flags" exhibit. Between 4,500 and 5,000 flags will be displayed on the front and side lawns of the church. Each flag will represent an individual U.S. Service person killed in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
