Has anyone read Ian McEwan's new novel "On Chesil Beach"? It
focuses on the first couple of days of a young married couple, and
became a best seller in England. I read an excerpt in New Yorker
last year and really liked it.

Well, my favorite book by Ian McEwan is Atonement. Possibly the
best/most sad ending to any book I have ever read.
God, I think I might need to revisit Atonement.
I also read the chapter of this one that was in the New Yorker...
it seemed like it would be good.
Amsterdam is yet another one he wrote that that won the Booker
Prize. However, that one is not my favorite. It's worth a read
though.

Yup Amsterdam is the other book I read, and the book that won the
Booker Prize. I didn't like that book too much either, Never
figured out the meaning at the end... I was hesitant to read any
more of his stuff until the short story (book excerpt) in the New
Yorker.

Out of the Book Film Series -- a new series of short films about
notable authors -- featuring Ian McEwan and his new novel, On
Chesil Beach.
Out of the Book is a new concept for the literary scene,
incorporating film-making and literature to enhance the reading
experience. The premise is to present a series of 30-minute films
featuring renowned authors in their personal surroundings,
discussing their latest works and giving audiences a glimpse of
their lives.
Join us on June 19 for a special evening featuring readings, music,
and a new 30-minute film featuring bestselling novelist Ian McEwan.
McEwan's new novel, On Chesil Beach, focuses on the first night
between a young married couple. What better way to celebrate the
debut of this film than a group of talented writers talking about
other 'first nights'?
Grub Street's own Pamela Painter, Jon Papernick, and Elizabeth
Benedict will read their own short pieces about wedding nights.
Submit Your "First Time" Story to be Read Aloud At The Event
Have your own real or imagined story about the first night of a
married couple? We'll choose one story to be read aloud as part of
the festivities! Stories must be 600 words or less, and they should
be at least somewhat suitable for a general audience.
http://www.harvard.com/events/ootb_conten...
Directed by Doug Biro (Herbie Hancock: Possibilities) and shot over
four days in England and the United States, the film includes
interviews with McEwan in London, on location footage from Chesil
Beach and Oxford, and original soundtrack, commentary from peers
and critics, one perplexing glimpse at British media, and more.
Please note that while the film is about Ian McEwan, he will not be
in attendance.

Found this neat web site, dailylit.com, which will emial a parts of
a book everyday so you can read it. No cost to have it sent to you,
this way I might actually finish Ulyseus by Joyce, instead of just
start it again for the 5th time.

Ok, firstly, I must apologize for being out of commission as of
late. Spring is a very busy time at the office and I got
sidetracked, but I'm back! So, if you all are still up for giving
the book club another go, I'm all for it. Has anyone given any
thought to a new meeting location? As I've said before, I'm open to
suggestions. I've had a few books reccommended to me recently that
I think would make good selections, but let's get a place sorted
out first, and then figure out a book, time, date, etc. Hope
everyone's been well, and is enjoying the spring-ish weather!

Hi All,
Just wanted to let you all know that due to a March Maddness mostly
unrelated to basketball, our meeting for this evening has been
cancelled. Due to super busy schedules this month, many people are
unable to go this evening, and many (myself included) were unable
to finished reading the book. So, between this and trying to find a
new place and a good date and time, etc., it seems to make sense to
put this on hold for the time being. What's the group consensus on
rescheduling the dicussion of this book vs choosing a new book
altogether?

Hi Stacy. If you are interested in holding the meetings in small
rooms in a restaurant in Back Bay or downtown I may be able to put
you in contact with a few places as I have some great PR contacts.
People arriving after work could get food and drinks too. What is
the average turnout?

Hi all,
I notice that there is very little interest expressed in our 4th
meeting, set to occur March 21st. I was just wondering, is this
lack of interest because you are unavailable on that date/at that
time, because you aren't interested in the book choice, or for some
other reason? Just looking for some feedback, and trying to
accomodate as many people as possible.

I've checked out Borders on School Street and Barnes and Noble at
the Prudential Center as possible locations for future meetings,
and was unsuccessful. Haven't check the new Borders on
Boylston/Newbury yet, so that's a thought, as is changing to
another day of the week for future meetings. What days work best
for everyone?

Hey everyone,
I just joined this group today so I will not be able to make it
tmrw. since I didn't get a chance to read the book. However, in the
future, I think a Sat. or Sun. during the late morning or early
afternoon (like 11am or noon) would be great because you would have
enough time to meet and discuss the book and you'd still have
enough time to get everything else done in your day. What do you
think? Also, what will the next book be? Thanks and have a great
meeting tmrw!

Great author Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez. Educated in Boston and she was a writer for a paper sometime ago.
check out: The Dirty Girls Social Club, Playing with Boys (my favorite) and Make Him Feel Good.
The titles may sound juvenile to some, but it's a good read.
