YAVA is social club with a volunteering problem! We are a lively group of Boston 20-somethings who help the community in countless ways — we serve meals to the homeless, play Bingo with the elderly, prune trees along the Charles River, tutor kids of all ages, coach every kind of sports team imaginable, provide administrative support to fledging nonprofit organizations — the list goes on and on! We enjoy feeling strongly connected with our community. We also enjoy drinking and raucous laughter! YAVA members regularly engage in a whole host of social activities — we attend wine tastings and local concerts, organize urban scavenger hunts and bowling nights, and devour delectable food galore! Basically we are group of urban young professionals who absolutely detest the sensation of boredom! Boredom sucks. We get off on helping people! READ THIS!!! Note - You are NOT a YAVA member until you go to www.YAVAonline.org and click JOIN. That is where ALL the action happens. This group is just for added kicks.

    am hosting my 27th cocktail party on Sunday, February 25, 2007. The party starts at 6.30 p.m. and will wind down around 10:30 p.m. Please bring several friends to the party, the most interesting people you know (see section D).

    The party will be given at:

    Great Bay
    Hotel Commonwealth
    500 Commonwealth Avenue
    Kenmore Square
    Boston, MA 02215
    (617) 532-5300

    Great Bay is located directly across from the Foundation Lounge, within the Hotel Commonwealth. Directions are available in section H.

    Directions are available in section H.

    The cost is $20. The admission fee is waived if you enter (or have entered) on-line your description, which days of the week you want to be invited to parties and events, and which e-mails you want to receive. To edit your information on-line, see Section B. If you are not on James’ invitation list, don’t worry about this, just show up and there will be no admission fee.

    Cocktail party dress is preferred (see section J). Please bring business cards with you in case you meet someone you want to follow up with (see section M).

    We do ask that you RSVP for this party. Our RSVP policy is explained in section N.

    During the party, you can reach me on my mobile phone (781 718-1301). Other than that, you can reach me at (781) 647-0136, which is good day and night.

    As noted below in the “Calendar of Events” (see section Q), my next smaller cocktail parties are on March 13th and March 25th.

    I hope to see you at the party!

    ==========================================
    A. Internet Illuminations
    ==========================================
    I am starting a company that will incubate Internet/Web-based businesses, focusing on businesses that will quickly generate positive cash flow, as opposed to spending a ton of venture capitalist’s money, hoping for a sale of the company five years from now. I have teamed up with several Internet marketing and search engine optimization experts who will use their proprietary techniques to drive traffic to these sites. This business is described at www.BostonConvivium.com/internet/a....

    We are looking for experienced professionals:

    • Entrepreneurs and business executives who are Internet-savvy
    • Project managers
    • Internet marketing experts
    • Search engine optimization experts
    • Web designers
    • Web developers
    • Writers and editors
    • System administrators
    • Database administrators
    • Web designers
    • Existing Web sites and sellers of certain goods and services.

    We work with professionals on an entrepreneurial basis, where they receive a percentage of the profits generated by the business (and a percentage of the proceeds from selling the business if the business was ever sold). Given our focus on starting Web-based businesses that will generate positive cash flow within a few months after start-up, and our intention of only starting businesses that will be long-lived, we offer the potential of steady substantial long-term cash flow for our partners. Offering a significant profit participation allows us to recruit a caliber of person that would be almost impossible to hire as an employee, so you would be working with extremely talented professionals. Our partners can work either full-time or part-time; if part-time, we are looking for a minimum of 20 hours a week. For further information, please see www.BostonConvivium.com/internet/r.... If you are interested (or know someone who is), please write to James Mitchell at JMitchell@KensingtonLLC.com.
    ==========================================
    B. How to Edit Your Information
    ==========================================
    If you are on James’ invitation list, you can edit your information on-line:

    1. Go to www.BostonConvivium.com
    2. Login (third column on the right)
    3. Enter your member number (this has been sent to you previously)
    4. Enter your password:
    5. You will be taken to the Member Menu. From there you can edit your information.

    In all cases, please edit your information on-line, rather than sending us an e-mail asking us to update it for you. With so many members, we simply do not have the resources to do this for you.
    ==========================================
    C. General Information
    ==========================================
    Restrooms. Great Bay does not have restrooms in the restaurant, so you have to use the restrooms in the Hotel Commonwealth. There are two entrances to Great Bay — the entrance within the Hotel Commonwealth, and the direct entrance on Commonwealth Avenue. Exit the first entrance (the entrance within the Hotel Commonwealth); on your left will be a staircase. Go up the stairs and turn right, up a few more stairs. Immediately on your left are the restrooms.

    Food. You can order food at Great Bay.

    Payment. Cash or credit cards are accepted at Great Bay.

    When You Arrive. If you are entering through The Hotel Commonwealth, once you enter Great Bay, immediately to your left will be a registration table. If you are entering directly from Commonwealth Avenue, the registration table will be on the left. The nametags will be on the registration table. If one has not been printed for you, handwrite a nametag.
    ==========================================
    D. Guests
    ==========================================
    We encourage you to bring several guests to the party, preferably the most interesting people you know. One girl brought nine friends to one of the parties. The most appropriate guests are those who would be eligible to join as members. The kind of people we’re looking for is explained here, and our expectations of our members are described here. Please inform your guests of our dress code.

    If you have doubts about whether you should bring a particular person, we’ve learned the hard way that it’s best to err on the side of caution and to not bring them, as our experience has been that when members have doubts about a particular guest, such doubts are well-founded. Our invitation list is already quite large and is growing at an increasing rate, so it’s more important to focus on keeping the quality of the invitation list high than adding even more people. If you have any questions about what we look for in guests, please give James a call at (781) 647-0136, which is good day and night.

    If you know ahead of time that you’re going to invite someone, we strongly encourage you to e-mail James their name and e-mail address. That way, we can add them to the general invitation list and we’ll print a nametag for them. If you don’t know, you’re free to just bring them to the party.

    See photos from previous parties.

    ==========================================
    H. Directions and Parking
    ==========================================
    Hotel Commonwealth is three blocks west (i.e., going away from Boston) of Massachusetts Avenue. Take the Green line to the Kenmore Square subway stop. While you are underground, go the left. Once you emerge onto the street, turn right and Hotel Commonwealth is immediately there.

    You’ll enter the first set of doors to the hotel. On your right will be the entrance to The Foundation Lounge, which you don’t want. Go through the second set of doors. The entrance to Great Bay is immediately to your left, before the stair case. The party will be held in the bar area. Alternatively, Great Bay has its own entrance, immediately to the left of the Hotel Commonwealth’s entrance.
    Directions to Hotel Commonwealth and Great Bay

    Valet parking is available for $12.
    ==========================================
    I. Coat Check
    ==========================================
    Great Bay will check your coats if you wish, at the very front of the restaurant.
    ==========================================
    J. Dress Code
    ==========================================
    For our parties, we ask that people dress up. Cocktail party dress is strongly preferred. Business attire is acceptable if you’re coming directly from work. Anything less formal — including business casual — is not acceptable. At a minimum, men should wear jackets and shirts with collars, and we prefer that women wear dresses or skirts. Please see our dress code. If in doubt, err on the side of overdressing slightly. We do drop from the invitation list those who are substantially underdressed. If you have any questions about the dress code, please give me a call at (781) 647-0136, which is good day and night.

    ==========================================
    K. Nametags
    ==========================================
    At the party, guests wear a nametag on their chest. Please note that this is not optional. Nametags and descriptive tags should be worn on your chest, rather than your purse, your pants or your shoes. We print nametags and descriptive tags for those who RSVPed “Yes”; we do not print them for those who RSVPed “Maybe.” Therefore, if you RSVPed “Maybe” and you want a nametag and descriptive tag printed for you, you should change your response to “Yes” no later than noon the day of the party.
    Nametags and descriptive tags are color coded:

    Red Border — Host (that’s me), the facilitators, and the greeter (if we have one)

    No Border — Those on the invitation list

    Blue Border — Guests who are not yet on the invitation list

    ==========================================
    L. Facilitators
    ==========================================
    Because this party is smaller than my other parties, there is less need for facilitators, but we will have them. Facilitators introduce you to other people if you request. You can use them to meet new friends, to find business contacts, or for dating. Facilitators wear nametags and descriptive tags with a red border.
    ==========================================
    M. Business Cards
    ==========================================
    Please bring numerous business cards with you in case you meet people you want to follow up with. After every party, I receive several e-mails from people, saying that someone they met at the party wrote down their contact information and they can’t read their handwriting. Wouldn’t it be easier if the other person just handed them a business card? If you don’t have business cards, Professional Taste Printing will print 1000 business cards for as low as $35.
    ==========================================
    N. Our RSVP Policy
    ==========================================
    For many of our parties -- including our large and smaller cocktail parties -- we ask that people RSVP, even if they are not attending. You can tell that a response is expected because the invitation begins with “RSVP --”. If you don’t know whether you can attend, please RSVP “Maybe.” If you don’t respond, you will continue to receive reminders until you do. See our RSVP policy. We print nametags for those who RSVP “Yes,” but we do not print nametags for those who RSVP “Maybe.” Therefore, if you’ve RSVPed “Maybe” and you want a nametag printed for you, you should change your response to “Yes” by noon of the day of the party.
    ==========================================
    O. HeyLetsGo
    ==========================================
    I am no longer using Evite, due to enormous technical problems. At this point we completely moved to HeyLetsGo and we are not coming back to Evite. To RSVP, please scroll down to the end of this e-mail and click on “Yes”, “Maybe” or “No.” This will take you to the HeyLetsGo Web site. You will need to then click on “Save your response.” If you do not do so, your response will not be recorded.
    ==========================================
    P. About Boston Convivium
    ==========================================
    Founded in November 2002, Boston Convivium has become the most successful “high end” social group in the history of Boston, with over 4000 members. I host a large cocktail party about once a month, two smaller cocktail parties a month, as well as send out invitations for other good events. We are the only social group in Boston that actively screens for interesting people with interesting careers, good social skills, people who are not rude, flaky or space cadets.
    ==========================================
    Q. Calendar of Parties and Events
    ==========================================
    These are some parties and events you may be interested in. Please RSVP through the HeyLetsGo system by clicking on the appropriate link and entering your response (Yes, No or Maybe). When you RSVP and/or when you login to the HeyLetsGo system, please use the e-mail address of yours to which we are sending invitations, which is listed above. If the e-mail address you have provided us is different than the one you have provided to HeyLetsGo, you should change of the e-mail addresses so that they match. Otherwise, it will create confusion in our database and HeyLetsGo’s database.
