cocktail party in Boston once a month, usually at the Ritz-Carlton
Hotel or the downtown Harvard club, with about 500 people
attending. I also host 2 to 3 smaller cocktail parties a month,

Dealing With An Unplanned Pregnancy

Name: Anonymous | Location: Philadelphia , PA |Question: This is a question I'd like to throw out to your readers (and it might serve as a warning to some). Everybody seems to be pretty accepting of the casual sex or friends with benefits arrangements so what happens when an "accidental" pregnancy occurs in the course of one of these arrangements? In my case, the guy who was an actual friend (before the benefits part started) told me he had a vasectomy many years ago. He also told me that he had been pretty much celibate for a number of years since his last girlfriend who kind of did a number on him. We live in the same neighborhood and travel in pretty much the same social circles, and he had some minor ED issues that made using condoms difficult. Like most people, I think, I thought vasectomies were pretty foolproof so pregnancy wasn't even really on my radar screen. For that reason and a total lack of typical pregnancy "symptoms" I didn't realize I was pregnant until I was into my 5th month. Some subsequent research led to a discovery that approx. 3-5% of vasectomies spontaneously reverse themselves. Since I wasn't with anyone else I have to assume that's what happened or he lied and never had the vasectomy in the first place. But I don't think he did that. His reaction to the news of the pregnancy was academy award winning if it was a lie, and it would also been monumentally stupid to just have many times over the course of year with a woman he knew wasn't using anything and not expect this to happen. He definitely didn't want more kids. He's divorced with 3, and had/has a pretty contentious relationship with his ex over support.
Now he's being kind of an ass. He wanted me to get an abortion, but the combination of the late discovery and some health problems on my end made that impossible although I did try and would have gone through with it had it been possible. Now he wants to just walk away from it and me. I don't know what to do. We were real "friends" but never a real "couple" so I'm not envisioning any insta family thing, but some support would be nice, and he just doesn't want to deal with it. And I kind of don't have any choice. Any thoughts, suggestions? Has anything like this happened to anyone else? |Age: 35
